Har-Ki-Dun Trekking Tour

Highlights : If you have seen the Lord of the Rings and appreciated the Landscape, you need not go all the way to New Zealand. The trek to Har Ki Dun will provide you with all the sights that you are looking for. Lush Greenery, Scraggy mountains, towering snow capped peaks, Glaciers and gushing streams that seem to spring from nowhere.

Har-ki-Dun is situated in the Western Garhwal Himalayas, at the base of Fateh Parvat. This cradle shaped valley, South-east of Jaundar glacier is surrounded by dense forests of pine, deodar and other coniferous trees. It is totally covered by a blanket of blue and purple flowers. The surrounding forest is rich in wild life and exotic birds and forms part of the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park. The main snow clad peaks visible from here are Swarga-Rohini, Bandarpunch and Kala Nag.

When to Trek :
A trek into Har Ki Dun can be undertaken fom mid-April to mid-November. The post - monsoon season is ideal for trekking. However, the local trekkers continue to to trek up the valley as far as Osla, in the heart of winter too.

Getting There : There are regular bus services from Mussoorie and Dehra Dun to Sankri. There are buses to Sankri from Shimla and Uttar Kashi too. Beyond Sankri, there is a jeep road to Taluka.

Day 1 : DEHRADUN - MORI (1130 M / 3700 ft)
Drive from Dehradun to Mori (170 km, 5-6 hrs). Mori is a quaint village by the river Tons and has beautiful pine forest all around. Overnight in GIO's Camp Har-ki-Dun.

Day 2 : MORI - TALUKA (1900 M / 6230 ft)

Day 3 : OSLA (2560 M / 8400 ft)
Early morning we drive from Mori to Taluka (35 km, 1.5 hrs). We start on our trek from Taluka. Osla is 13 kms from here and will take about 5-6 hrs. Overnight in tents..

Day 4 : OSLA - HAR-KI-DUN (3566 m / 11700 ft)
Today we will trek 14 km to reach Har-Ki-Dun, this will take about 7-8 hrs moving at a leisurely pace so as to enjoy the beauty of the valley. Overnight in tents.

Day 5 : HAR-KI-DUN
On this day everyone does his own thing. One can go on an exploratory trek in the valley, capture some magnificent views on the camera, or just chill at the campsite. Overnight in tents.

Day 6 : HAR-KI-DUN - OSLA
In the afternoon we start retracing our steps towards Osla (14 km / 3-4 hrs). Overnight in tents.

Day 7 : RASOL - KASOL (1585 M/4240 FT)
A short 9 km (5 hrs) trek today takes you to the attractive campsite at Kashol. Set in white sand with a striking background of aiguilles. Overnight in Tents

Day 8 : OSLA - TALUKA - MORI
Early morning we start walking down towards Taluka (13 km / 3-4 hrs) and from here get onto a jeep and reach the camp at Mori. Overnight in Camp Har-ki-Dun.

Day 9 : MORI - DEHRADUN
After breakfast we drive down to Dehradun (170 kms).

Mystic Garhwal : Panwali Kantha Trek 
 
Highlights : Nature has best endowed Garhwal with  magnificent natural resources. Panwali Kantha, one of the high altitude meadows of  Garhwal  Himalayas, apart form its thrilling landscape is specially known for the spectacular display of the flowering herbs. At an altitude of 3658 meters, this meadow lies in the northern part of Garhwal Himalayas. One can also encounter  high altitude animals e.g. Bharal, Ghoral, Himalayan Bear, and the rate musk deer.

Other than rich flora one can encounter outstanding views of Greater Himalayan peaks. The trip involves trek to Panwali Kantha  and visit to three of the most important temple related to lord Shiva. GuptaKasi (The invisible Kashi for the Gods) Trijuginarayan (Venue of lord Shivas marriage with Parvati)  and Kedarnath temple, considered to be the  holiest  of Shiva shrines in the Himalayas. The temple stands in the shadow of Kedarnath  peak (6940 mts)  and one of the twelve Jyotirlingams or resplendent lingam, scattered over the country.

Day 01 : RISHIKESH
Arrive Rishikesh  and transfer to Hotel. After dinner meet the crew and the trip leader, which will be followed by briefing on the trek. Meals and overnight  hotel.
 
Day 02 : RISHIKESH / GHUTTU
(
DRIVE: 5-6 Hrs.)
Morning  we drive to Ghuttu , a small Garhwali village and starting point of the trek. Enroute lunch. We try to explore . Meals and overnight  camp.
 
Day 03 : GHUTTU / PANWALI KANTHA
(
TREK : 6-7 Hrs.)
Distance: Trek*18 kms
Driving Time (App.): 7-8hrs
Morning after breakfast we start for Panwali. The trek today is very steep. About nine kilometers of steep ascent takes us to Panwali.  Arrive and camp in the meadow near a stream, as the entire meadow is full of crystal clear springs. Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 04 : PANWALI KANTHA / MAGGUCHATTI
(
TREK : 4-5 Hrs)
Morning after breakfast we start descending towards Magguchatti . The entire trek is on rocky terrain and is strenuous. Arrive Magguchatti and camp.  Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 05 : MAGGUCHATTI / GAURIKUND
Early morning after breakfast trek to Trijugi Narayan, a legendry  village where Shiva & Parvati were wedded. Arrive and visit the temple. After exploring the village we trek to Gaurikund. Today we camp little before Gurikund, near the  river. Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 06 : GOURIKUND / KEDARNATH
(TREK: 5-6 Hrs)
Morning we visit the Gaurikund temple and the hot springs. After words we proceed for Kedarnath. The entire trek is gradual ascent till we reach Kedarnath. Arrive Kedarnath & camp. Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 07 : KEDARNATH
Day free to visit the temple and explore the area. Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 08 : KEDARNATH / GAURIKUND
(TREK 5-6 Hrs)
Return trek. Arrive Gaurikund and have a refreshing dip in the hot spring pool. Meals and overnight camp.
 
Day 09 : GAURIKUND / RISHIKESH
(DRIVE: 8-9 Hrs)
Morning after breakfast we drive down to Rishikesh. Arrive Rishikesh and transfer to Hotel for meals and overnight  stay.
 
Day 10 : RISHIKESH/  OUT
Morning after breakfast proceed for onward destination.
